Men in the UK will be able to buy Viagra over the counter after consulting with a pharmacist and without a prescription for the first time today.
ViagraConnect manufacturer, Pfizer, estimates more than a fifth of men aged over 18 in Britain suffer from erectile dysfunction, but almost half of those over 40 have not sought medical help.
The erectile dysfunction drug will be available in 14,000 stores across Britain and via pharmacy websites.
The tablets will be available exclusively from Boots until 10 April.
Those aged 18 and over will be able to buy the tablets following a conversation with a pharmacist or after filling out an online form. Men can ask to speak to a pharmacist in a private consultation room if preferred.
The pharmacists will determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine and potential side effects. They will advise men to consult with their doctor no less than six months after buying Viagra so that any potential underlying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease can be investigated.
A Boots spokesperson said that the man affected by erectile dysfunction should buy the drug themselves wherever practically possible.
Men with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure, strokes or those taking certain other medicines, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.
A four-pack of the tablets will cost £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99.
Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day.
Viagra is is already available as an NHS prescription free of charge for those eligible not to pay for their prescriptions.
The pharmacist will decide how many packs will be supplied in a transaction.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced in November it was to steer men away from buying the tablets from. In 2016 £17m worth of unlicensed and counterfeit Viagra was seized.
Kristie Sourial, Pfizer’s medical manager, said: “It’s important to remember that erectile dysfunction is a medical condition, and that the impact often goes beyond the physical symptoms – it can lead to men feeling anxious, depressed and lacking in confidence.
“Our hope is that the availability of Viagra Connect in pharmacies will encourage men who do nothing about their erectile dysfunction to seek help, and encourage those who are inclined to seek help to do so sooner.”

I was in the middle of my last trip to India. It was just like my first trip in seven years, but I was a little nervous. I had been in Dubai for a week, but then I got a call from my doctor who said I was suffering from erectile dysfunction and had been put on Viagra. He said I was not going to be able to have sex because I didn’t have enough blood in me. I told him I had to be careful, but then he sent me on my way. I did not expect that, but I had to find a solution for myself. I needed to be honest with myself. I went to the doctors and they told me not to go into sex because I had not been able to get an erection.
I was a bit worried about this, but the doctor was a bit worried about me. He said the Viagra was not effective. He said I needed to see an endocrinologist first because I had some heart disease and not had a heart attack before. It was not a good idea, I was told. I had a heart attack about two weeks ago. I had no erection for four days before my doctor told me to stop. I was in a bad way, but I was a little worried, and I was feeling anxious and not very happy.
I went to my local surgery, but was told it was all right. The operation took about an hour, and the nurse gave me a heart injection. I was injected with a small amount of blood and a vein in my arm. My arm and the vein were not blocked, but the blood was flowing normally. I was able to get an erection.
My doctor said he did not know if I had been taking any nitrates or taking any drug that was supposed to treat my erectile dysfunction. I was prescribed Viagra, but not before. I had not been given Viagra to get an erection. I had not had a heart attack before, and I was having some bad stuff. The doctor told me I should not take the drug for five years because I was already taking nitrates, but I didn’t want that. I didn’t want to be able to have sex again.
My blood pressure was down, but my heart rate was not at all normal. I had a bad reaction to drugs in the first place. I was given the medication Cialis, and was told it could not be taken. My wife had called the doctor, and the doctor told her not to take it. The doctor said she had some blood in my leg and was having some difficulty breathing. The doctor told her not to take the drug, and I had to take Cialis because I was allergic to Viagra. She told me not to take it because I was already taking nitrates. She said that I could not go back to the doctor because I was too weak to be on medication. I was put on Viagra and not taken for a long time. I had a very bad reaction to Viagra, and was told to stay on it.
My blood pressure, cholesterol, and my heart rate were all still very bad. I couldn’t have sex for two weeks after the operation. I was so anxious that I could not get an erection. I had to go to the doctor to get some tests done. I was told that the blood test showed no problems, and that Viagra was not going to be effective. I could hardly get an erection. I went to see my doctor.
The doctor told me to stop taking Cialis, but it would not be effective. I was given Viagra and my blood pressure was still very bad. The doctor said the drug might make my blood pressure drop, but that I should take it again. I felt really dizzy, so I was put on Viagra and then told to stop taking Cialis. The doctor said that the blood pressure was fine, but that I should take another medicine, and not go back to the doctor. The doctor told me to take Cialis again. I was so dizzy that I didn’t get any effect on my blood pressure.
The blood pressure dropped again. I was in a terrible way, and felt that I needed to go back to the doctor. The doctor told me to stop, and I was told to go back to the doctor. My blood pressure was still terrible, but my heart rate was not doing any good. I felt that I needed to go back to the doctor. I had no erection at all, and I was not going to be able to have sex again. I had no idea what to do. I went to see the doctor, and he told me to stop, and I did not have any erection.
